Extension Work For When C/A is Finished

Read the poem "Hitcher" by Simon Armitage (page 108 in the green OCR "Reflections" anthology and answer the following questions in as much detail as you can:

1) What do we learn about the murderer in the first stanza?
2) What impression do you get of the victim in stanza 2?
3) Which words or phrases give you this impression?
4) In stanza three, what do you think the murderer feels when he commits the crime? Again, find quotations to prove your points.
5) Why do you think that the murderer kills his victim?

Extension: Write a short newspaper story, including headline, reporting the events. Include:
 a description of the victim
 what the police think happened
 who they are looking for

    1) In the first stanza we learn that the murderer is mysterious unknown person who keeps writing letters to the victim.
    2) In the second stanza the impression that we get of the victim was that he is a very generous person.
    3) The phrase that made us realize this was “I picked him up” which shows that they didn’t mind travelling to pick someone up.
    4) In stanza three after the murderer has committed the crime they didn’t feel any guilt. “I let him have it.”
    5) I think he wanted to kill the victim because he wanted to have the car himself.

    Breaking news: yesterday night police found a body of dead in middle of the road. The police are suspecting that he was killed because they found marks on his head face. The victim was 25 years old, his height was 5foot 7inch, and he had blue eyes and blond hair. The police also found a driving license that said his name was Kevin Jones. The police telling people to look out for any suspicious person rooming around and also to look out for the stolen Vauxhall Astra and to inform the near by police immediately.
